About Holmemade

For the past 25 years I have been working in industry, primarily in Finance.... yes I'm one of those odd folk who actually likes numbers! My favourite part of the job though was always developing presentations and reports to help managers understand their performance... all with graphs and charts using creative colour schemes... design is in my DNA.

When not working I would be busy making curtains, blinds and cushions for our latest home... we've moved 5 times... or creating something for family and friends.

My main aim is to design beautiful things that will bring other people pleasure. Whether it's a greeting card for a new-born, a picture to brighten a wall, or a quirky cushion for a sofa or child's bedroom, I want it to put a smile on someone's face.

As every item is designed and hand crafted by me I am very happy to accept bespoke orders. So if you want something personal please drop me an email and tell me what you're after... and if you're not sure what you want tell me that too... I'm very happy to help with ideas.

Ever since I was little I have enjoyed designing things, making things and playing with colour. When I was at school my dolls must have been the best dressed around as I was always making them new outfits and at university I made a ballgown out of a binliner, just to check it would work... before cutting the taffeta for the final product.

I'm never happier than when I'm planning a new decorating scheme, or designing and making home accessories, gifts and cards. Whether I'm rummaging through piles of pretty fabric or sheets of cute cardstock I love thinking about what colours and patterns work well together and seeing a project take shape.

In 2014 I developed chronic fatigue, probably the inevitable result of working long hours, with a long commute, bring up a young family and trying to burn the candle at both ends. By mid 2015 I had given up work completely and was focused on restoring my health. To aid my recovery I turned to my creative side, which has proved extremely therapeutic and my symptoms are now much reduced.

For many years I have had a dream of running my own design based business.... but not had the nerve to act on it, despite much encouragement from friends and family. Getting ill was the nudge I needed, so now I am busy at home doing what I love.
